Food for Thought

by Abigail Solazzo
As volunteer leaders, we are always focused on ways to improve and grow our chapters. We have many responsibilities throughout the year that support these efforts, but none might be as important as recruitment. Recruitment is one of the ongoing responsibilities of volunteers, but in reality, it’s every member’s job. Recruiting expands brand awareness, as well as the reach within our communities and expertise in the nutrition and foodservice industry. Recruitment also helps to put more CDM, CFPPs in management positions to ensure the facility is being run properly. Additionally, recruitment of new members supports our chapter’s legacy and allows us to pass the baton to the next generation of leaders. Learn how we can connect with Gen Z members to become the next generation of members as well as chapter leaders.

Digital Communities & Outreach – Gen Z is known as digital-natives, the first generation born into a digital world. We can take advantage of the technology that is available to us to connect with Gen Z members using social media, apps, and virtual/hybrid meetings and webinars to provide community and engage these prospective members.

Purpose & Impact Driven – This generation is purpose and values-driven. They align themselves with causes and missions that resonate with them and their values. They also want to know the work they are doing has purpose and is making a positive impact in the world around them. Highlight the impact your chapter has had on your state or local communities and let your prospective members know your work serves a great purpose in and outside of facilities.

Career Advancement – Gen Z is highly motivated to advance their careers. Earning their credential and getting involved with their chapter, as well as ANFP’s Mentorship Program, is a recipe for success. Share your own experience of career advancement as a chapter leader and how becoming a CDM, CFPP was integral in shaping your career.
