Our volunteers play a vital role in shaping the future of the Foundation and helping us fulfill our mission to support current and aspiring CDM, CFPPs. Board members work collaboratively to gain a thorough understanding of NFEF's vision, mission, and goals while providing leadership and guidance to help shape the organization's future.
As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will:
- Champion and advance the mission and purpose of NFEF.
- Help interpret and uphold the organization's bylaws while developing and executing policies.
- Provide direction for future growth and strategic initiatives that support the organization's long-term success.

Before You Apply
- Who is eligible?
- Current ANFP members
- Non-members who are interested in supporting NFEF’s mission
- Representatives from ANFP's corporate partners
- Term length: 1-year term. Trustees are eligible for re-election without any limitations on the number of terms.
- Meeting expectations: Board members are expected to actively participate in three virtual Board of Trustees meetings each year, as well as committee or advisory group meetings and activities that support the Foundation's mission and strategic priorities. Members of the Executive Committee are expected to attend the Annual Conference & Expo (ACE) as part of their leadership responsibilities. All Board of Trustees will receive a complimentary registration to attend ACE and are encouraged to connect with ANFP professionals.
Expectations of Service
Applicants appreciate knowing what they're committing to, such as:- Attend all scheduled Board or committee/advisory group meetings.
- Review meeting materials in advance.
- Participate actively in discussions and decision-making.
- Serve as an ambassador for NFEF.
- Support strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
- Maintain confidentiality when appropriate.
- Comply with conflict-of-interest and governance policies.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is travel required? Travel is only required for volunteers serving as members of the NFEF Executive Committee to the Annual Conference & Expo.
- Are expenses reimbursed? Yes. Approved expenses related to volunteer responsibilities are covered in accordance with NFEF’s reimbursement policies.
- Can I serve on more than one board or committee? Yes! Volunteers are welcome to serve on more than one board or committee.
- What if I have never served on a board before? No prior board experience is required. We welcome individuals with a variety of professional backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.
- How are candidates applying through the NFEF Call for Volunteers selected? Candidates are selected by the NFEF Chair-Elect. All applications are thoughtfully reviewed, taking into consideration the applicants’ interests, skills, experience, and how they align with the needs of the Board. The application process is conducted in conjunction with the ANFP Call for Volunteers. If candidates are also applying for ANFP/CBDM Board positions, interviews will be carried out by the Leadership Development Committee. Candidates applying to serve only on the NFEF Board will not be interviewed.
- Can I apply if I have previously served on the NFEF board? Yes. If you have previously served on the NFEF Board, you are eligible to apply again.
- If I am currently serving as an NFEF board member, do I have to apply through the NFEF Call for Volunteers? No. If you are currently serving on the Board, you do not need to apply. Your re-election will be considered by the NFEF Chair-Elect as part of the board leadership succession process.
- Can I apply again if I'm not selected? Absolutely! We encourage you to apply again in future volunteer cycles.
- How are applicants notified of selection? If selected to serve, you will be notified via email communications in March.
