National Hunger Week
April 11 - April 16, 2016
Hunger is a reality for many seniors as well. The National Foundation to End Senior Hunger reports on their website (NFESH.org) that in 2013, 58 percent of seniors threatened by hunger had incomes below 200 percent of the poverty line. Sadly, nearly 40 percent of disabled seniors faced the threat of hunger in 2013. The Center of American Progress estimates that hunger increases the cost of illness by $130.5 million each year in the U.S. National Hunger Week was created by ANFP to raise awareness and help the hungry and poverty stricken in America.
