1. Highest level of education: 47 percent of respondents identified the Dietary Manager Training Program certificate as their highest level of education.

2. Average salary has steadily increased by 2-3 percent annually from 2005 ($39,201) to 2021 ($59,180).

 

3. Year-end average hourly wage/equivalent increased by 5.1 percent to $28.52/hour from 2020 to 2021. Total annual salary/wage income was $59,180 in 2021.

 

4. Total compensation (including salary and non-salary income) increased by 6.2 percent from an average of $57,987 in 2020 to $61,561 in 2021.

 

5. Respondents reported earning an annual average of $6,289 in overtime, working the equivalent average of 220 hours in overtime.

6. Most survey participants were Food Service Directors (43 percent), down by 5 percent in 2020, followed by Foodservice Managers (36 percent), up by 4 percent in 2020

7. Twelve states accounted for about half of survey participants: California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

8. The number of participants with more than 30 years’ experience continued to remain the highest since 2018.

 

9. The majority of participants (60 percent) worked in skilled nursing facilities, and just over half (52 percent) of those facilities have fewer than 100 beds, while the remaining have more than 100 beds.

 

10. The average work week reported was 48.7 hours.
