During the past year the Louisiana ANFP has been on a mission to promote hunger awareness within our state. During the year each of our districts has been raising funds and canned goods to be brought to our 2016 spring state education conference and state chapter meeting. At our spring meeting we will be partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank Acadiana division by touring their facility and participating in a bagging of groceries session for needy families in Louisiana.

As a state association we decided to also partner with Northshore High Schools NJROTC Panther Battalion and hold a scavenger hunt for canned goods as well as other non-perishable food items. The cadets were excited to help us out and we provided them with a pizza party as our thanks for their help. The cadets were able to provide us with 375 lbs. of food to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank.

At our annual state conference April 27th – 29th 2016, we were able to donate 486 LBS. of canned and non-perishable food items, we also were able to donate $518.00 dollars which will enable Second Harvest to provide 1400 meals for families in need. While we were at Second Harvest our members provided free labor and were able to box 3800 lbs. of fresh sweet potatoes in just under one hour of time. During our tour of Second Harvest’s facility our guide stated that she had never seen a group of volunteers work so quickly and so well together. We were told that as of 4/27/16 Louisiana ANFP holds the record for fastest production of quality volunteer work when it comes to boxing fresh produce.
