Food and Nutrition Services Director

Summary:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Effective operation of employee cafeterias, patient meal service and nutrition programs, over sight of contracted food services, catering services and food kiosk services like Cancer Center.
*Responsible for mentoring, educating and developing an effective department management team that creates excellent service outcomes.
*Collaborates and builds relationship with members within the department and others outside department especially nursing. Obtains feedback from others for the purpose of making projects and programs inclusive and effective.
*Establishes department service value through effective cost control policies and quality services that meet budgetary objectives. Manages salary of 235 fulltime employees with an operational expense of $16 million and corresponding revenue. Ensure compliance with Christiana Care hour and payroll policies and productivity standards.
*Maintains accurate revenue accounting records for cafeteria.
*Establishes regular communications with staff, management team, nursing, administration and others as needed.
*Maintains quality service and food standards by implementing healthy patient and employee's menus.
*Responsibility for the day to day over sight of contracted food services for visitor meals.
*Ensures that the department meets all local, state, and federal laws and standards pertaining to the functioning of the Nutrition Service Department; this includes OSHA and JCAHO.
*Maintains membership in national professional organizations in order to develop professionally.
*Develops a complete Department Operations Policy Manual. This manual is designed to insure procedures which are safe, consistent, effective, and efficient in the operations, objectives and standards of the Christiana Care.
*Maintains sanitation standards of the Nutrition Services Department. Reviews checklist and Q.I. Reports of the premises making sure corrective actions are taken and that local health regulations are consistently complied with.
*Maintains quality and temperature of food standards. Purchases food according to established specifications, policies, and procedures.
*Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to administrator, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: B.S. or B.A. degree in management, nutrition or related area. Five years experience in a multi-operations health care facility preferred Registered dietician is preferred
