Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals Public Policy & Advocacy Award 2009
Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals (ANFP) is pleased to award its second Public Policy & Advocacy Award, an award established in 2008 to recognize a member of ANFP who has accomplished positive governmental results for ANFP, ANFP members or the profession. ANFP’s legislative committee had a difficult task when asked for award nominations because of the many wonderful spokespersons and members, over the years, who have given of their personal time to attain both national and state recognition of certified dietary managers.
On behalf of Bernadette Jacobs, chair of the national ANFP Legislative Committee, ANFP is pleased to present this award to Barbara Thomsen, CDM, CFPP, who has exerted zealous advocacy in the public policy arena within her state and on Capitol Hill. She has provided much leadership on the state level on her chapter board as well as the national level, serving on the national legislative committee. She has single-handedly secured the support of several Congressmen who have signed as co-sponsors of the “Safe Food for Seniors” federal bill. Because of her initiative, ANFP’s recent legislative efforts have driven a new momentum in acquiring federal recognition of the CDM credential.
